Washington - The battle to block the cross-state power line known as New York Regional Interconnect suffered a setback yesterday when the U.S. House rejected an effort to gut a program that could clear the way for the project.

A corridor proposed to run through much of New York state down to the Washington D.C., area is the subject of a public hearing Tuesday in Rochester.
